Overview:
Based on trauma studies insight into the transmission of trauma and how crimes of history embodied in preceding generations are accordingly embodied and carried by following generations, this workshop investigates how the Commercial Sex Industry (CSI) has become embedded in societal norms and thus impacts many patient’s lives in a variety of forms. We will begin with an overview of Freud’s (1905) treatment of ‘Dora’ in ‘Fragment of an Analysis of a Case of Hysteria,’ shifting our attention from Freud’s focus on the symptoms of her illness, he termed a “petite hysteria,” to the enactments within the societal and family circle, well documented in the case, that constitute what contemporary Human Sex Trafficking literature would term “grooming” and “trafficking of a child for the procurement of sex.”
